A word from Jessie
I was born in the beautiful city of Quebec on a Friday in May at 12:34. Art has always been a part of my life in various forms, including piano, dance, theater, photography, sewing, visual arts, and cinema.
Despite this, I chose a career in helping others, working for twelve meaningful years assisting children in difficulty and their families. For some reason, I completely set aside my artistic side.
At the age of 34, a tragic event shook my world, reminding me of life’s fragility and that perhaps I wasn’t as strong as I’d always thought. On July 3, 2016, I witnessed death up close as the turbulent waters of the St. Lawrence River took my mother. It was 3:34 pm when time stood still.
During this period, art made a significant comeback in my life. Creating became a way to soothe the pain and emptiness I was trying to tame. Jewelry-making became one of the artistic avenues I explored.
From my earliest memories, I’ve felt a special love for jewelry. As a child, I spent hours admiring my mother’s jewelry, cherishing the details and proudly wearing the first rings and bracelets given to me. These pieces, meticulously preserved, hold immeasurable value in my eyes. I genuinely believe that what makes each piece even more precious is the story it tells—the memories of an era, a significant person, a place, or a unique event it invokes.
Jewelry design came instinctively to me. I didn’t choose to change careers, I didn’t choose to become an entrepreneur. I didn’t wake up one morning and say to myself that I was going to become a jewelry designer. It all happened by accident, in every sense of the word.
Guided by a lucky star who passed on her love for jewelry, I officially founded Midi34 in 2017.
12:34, a significant hour, one I hardly ever miss, a time at which so many special events have taken place in my life—life, death, lightning, loss, joys, successes, and significant changes. The number 34, a number that follows me everywhere, a number that I love, but that I have also feared at times. I was later told that the sequence of numbers 1234 meant that a person is on the right track, on the right path. Today I know that Midi34 was my destiny. I also know that our most beautiful successes often emerge from life’s greatest challenges.
Each piece of jewelry carries its own story and marks time. I hope from the bottom of my heart that my jewels bring you happiness and comfort. May they remind you never to lose hope, give you the strength to believe in yourself, and make you shine in your everyday life.
